RFR811T9–I found this shoal of yellowfin barracuda (Sphyraena flavicauda: 30 cms.) underneath a moored boat at Marsa Nakari in southern Egypt. They did not appear to be discommoded by my presence and I was able to insert myself in the middle of the shoal and stay with them for some considerable time. This is one of the smallest species of barracuda and can be seen on the seaward side of reefs in the Indo-West Pacific regions; also in the Mediterranean having travelled there through the Suez Canal. The common name is derived from the fact that there is a small yellow patch at the base of the caudal fin.
