Sea slugs are various marine invertebrates that resemble terrestrial slugs. Most are gastropods, sea snails that do not have a shell or have an internal shell.
NOTE: We are not experts on these species. If you find we have misidentified one, or can identify one we could not, please let us know.
Nudibranchs are the most common sea slugs.
Dorid nudibranchs have a mantle which overlaps the sides of the foot. Most have a ring of gills surrounding the anus. The rhinophores are layered.

Dendronotid nudibranchs have elongated bodies with cerata on their dorsal sides. The cerata do not contains extensions of the digestive system. The rhinophores have a sheathe.

Sea hares have a small flat internal shell.
Pleurobranchs are sea slugs with a prominent mantle and an internal shell that is reduced or lost completely in adults.

Headshield slugs are considered sea slugs. Some bubble shell species have thin bubble-like shells. In most secies the shell is reduced or internal. The head shield is used to plow beneath the sand.
