Description
The Purple Passion Flower, commonly called Maypop, is a stunning, fast-growing vine that can reach up to 25 feet in one season and is a host plant to multiple butterfly species. Producing exotic purple flowers up to 6 inches wide, and delicious egg-shaped fruit with a tropical flavor. Vines are great for covering walls, fences, or trellises. Also good for hanging baskets or in large containers as long as you bring it inside for the winter. Flowers are used as a calming tea, and fruits can be eaten fresh, or made into jellies/jams, juice, and even wine.
- Zones: Tends to be most comfortable in zones 7 and up, but may tolerate zones as low as 5 if trimmed back hard and heavily mulched
