Arugula Seeds - Eruca Vesicaria - Delicious & Prolific

Quantity: 100+ Seeds

Arugula, aka Rocket, is an excellent vegetable. This hardy annual plant is a member of the cabbage family, Brassicaceae. These plants require very little attention in order for them to provide an abundance of delicious edible leaves throughout the entire growing season. In fact, if the plants are allowed to go to seed, they will self sow and create a magnificant arugula patch the following season. The leaves taste both sweet and mildly peppery. their texture remains tender, even when the leaves are large and mature. The plants can be grown at any of the year, and will remain alive throughout the whole winter in zones 3 and above.

All seeds are organic and open pollinated.

  • Growing Instructions

Arugula seeds can be started indoors or sown directly in the earth. If started indoors, it's good to sow them in a sterile growing medium; most available seed starting soils should do the job nicely; we use sunshine mix (peat moss and perlite). The soil should be made moist, but not damp. Sow the seeds 1/8 inch below the soil surface, or even on the surface. Store in a warm area until tiny sprouts emerge from the soil. Seeds can take between 2-4 weeks to germinate, but they can sometimes take less time too. Once germinated, and the first true leaf has formed, it's time to pot up to a larger container that contains a good quality potting soil. Transplant to their final location when the nighttime temperatures are consistently 8°C or higher; for us here at the farm, this is around early to mid April. Arugula does best when grown in full sun, but it grows very well (and less spicy) when grown in partial shade.
