The Traveler’s Palm or Traveler’s Tree originated in Madagascar. The Traveler’s palm is incorrectly called a palm because this tree is related to the Strelitzia species. It is an ornamental tree that has a beautiful trunk from which the leaves fan out in sync. The trunk contains a lot of water, which is why this plant eventually got its name. Needy travelers knew you could drink the water from these trees. The nickname East-West Palm has been given to this species because the fanned leaves more or less follow the East-West line and can therefore serve as a disguised compass. The plant propagates by rhizomes. We offer the foothills of our own tree so that other people can also grow this eye-catching tree. A “must have” in every exotic garden.
