Info

Randall & DiBattista, 2013

Field's damselfish is also found around the Cargados-Carajos Islands, a group of islands with an extensive reef in the Indian Ocean, 407 kilometers northeast of Mauritius.
Pycnochromis field feeds on zooplankton in the water column just above the reef.

This damselfish is light blue along the leading edge of the dorsal and anal fin spines and along the edge of the anterior soft portion of the median fins,it has faint dark longitudinal bands on the scale rows of the postorbital head; also faint bluish iridescence on the upper lip and suborbital.

Named in honor of Richard Field, who first suggested that the Indian Ocean population of Chromis dimidiata might represent a different species.

Similar species: Chromis iomelas and Chromis dimidiata.
