Melampus coffea (Linnaeus, 1758)

Melampus coffea is referred to as coffee bean snail, because housing is in the form of a coffee bean. Most snails are brown with three horizontal bands. The background color in some individuals may range from shades of gray or to yellowish brown. Unlike many other snails, coffee bean snail lacks an operculum.Its a small air-breathing salt marsh snail.

This small snail is commonly found in intertidal zone in Mangroves amongst roots and branches. Melampus coffea is a detritivore and herbivore.
