Pycnochromis acares (Randall & Swerdloff, 1973)

Adults found in exposed seaward reefs. Sometimes inhabit clear lagoons or channels. They occur in small to large aggregations on the upper edge of the slope over live coral or rubble.

Pycnochromis acares is an omnivorous species.

Similar to the Blackfin Chromis (Pycnochromis vanderbilti).
