Alpheus floridanus Kingsley, 1878

Habitat: Mud or sandy-mud bottoms; to 122 m depth.

Rostrum very short, only slightly extends beyond eyes; chela of first leg always predominant, large, usually asymmetrical, major first chela up to 6 times as long as broad, minor first chela up to 10 times as long as broad

Alpheus is a genus of snapping shrimp of the family Alpheidae. This genus contains in excess of 250 species, making this the most species-rich genus of shrimp. Like other snapping shrimp, the claws of Alpheus are asymmetrical, with one of the claws enlarged for making a popping noise
