Info

(Bleeker, 1849)

Distribution:
Indian Ocean: essentially restricted from African east coast to the west coast of Sumatra, and extending to Java and Bali.

Description:
Males with dusky bands on body, each band with a vertical pair of oblong spots; dark spot behind eye and opercle.
Females with faintly dusky bands on body overlain by dark lines that break up into dashes at posterior portion; dark spots on median fins.

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
