Macrophthalmus (Macrophthalmus) convexus Stimpson, 1858
Type locality for describing Macrophthalmus (Macrophthalmus) convexus is Loa-Chao Islands (Ryukyu Islands),
Japan.
Coloring: The crab is sand gray on the back and reddish brown on the belly. The inner surface of the scissors and the outer surface of the fingers as well as the ventral surfaces of the other pereopods are reddish brown. The carapace is smooth and shiny to the naked eye, eyestalks long and narrow, cornea extends to the tip of the outer orbital corner and sometimes extends slightly beyond.
The palm of the scissors of males is elongated, the outside is smooth above the longitudinal ridge, the bottom is highly granular, the inside is fine-grained, no thorn near the carpal joints; immobile finger in adult specimens clearly angled, cutting edge with long, low, notched tooth; Incisal edge of dactylus with a small square tooth near the base and granules distally.
Habitat: Lives on flat surfaces, usually at the lowest flood level. Seems to prefer hard, sandy surfaces.
Distribution: Existing records indicate that this species is widespread in the Indo-West Pacific region, from the Red Sea east to New Caledonia and then north to the Ryukyu Islands (Japan) and south to Queensland (Australia).
