Info

Varuna litterata (Fabricius, 1798)

Varuna litterata, also known as the river swimming crab or the peregrine crab, is a euryhaline species of crab (capable of tolerating a wide range of salt water concentrations) native to the Indo-Pacific. It is commonly found in slow-moving or almost stagnant fresh or brackish waters in estuarine habitats.

River-Swimming crabs are a marine crab known to occur in freshwater, being god swimmers and able to move with the currents along the coast.
