Petrolisthes novaezelandiae Filhol, 1885

The carapace is flattened and covered in short fine hairs. Males appear dull reddish to tan brown, while females are greyish brown in colour, often with small red spots.

This porcelain crab is endemic to New Zealand. Usually found beneath boulders, or in shell debris. On hard shores sometimes found in the holdfasts of seaweed, especially Macrocystis sp. Rarely found in the intertidal zone, more common from 1 to 75m deep.

Similar to Petrolisthes elongatus and Petrocheles spinosus.
