Parapercis haackei is a small groundfish with a sandy brown dorsum interspersed with light stripes, an irregular dark brown wavy line on the upper side, faint darker stripes on the middle and lower sides, small reddish brown spots on the middle side, especially near the pectoral fin bases, and a dark spot on the dorsal fin.
Lower lip black or with two spots; fins translucent with fine dark spots, except for a dark basal area on the spiny dorsal fin.

Sand perch inhabits sheltered sand, shell, and mud areas, near reefs, rocks, and near moorings.

Parapercis haackei is found on coastal reefs, in protected sand and mud areas near reefs and rocks off the shallow water zone.

Special feature: territorial fish!
