Info

Although at first the Chaetodon fremblii, also known as Bluestriped butterflyfish or Fremblii Butterflyfish, is a rather shy and easily frightened fish, once it settles in to its surroundings falls into the moderately-aggressive behavior. He is to be found endemic to Hawaiiian and surrounding island waters. Inhabit areas with rock or coral and is usually seen between 2 and 10 metres. Chaetodon fremblii is a carnivore that incidentially ingests algae when feeding in the wild. He may prey on the tentacles of tubeworms and other invertebrates

Butterflyfish are not recommended for reefs as they will pick at or eat a wide variety of corals, fan worms, and other invertebrates. Most Butterflyfish are known to pick at Aiptaisia, a parasitic anemone.

Husbandry know-how of owners

Hawaii, Johnston & Midway; 13 cm; rare
Very common in shallow waters in Oahu, where I took photos; juveniles to adults without eye-band; thought to occur formerly widespread, but now restricted to the islands; notoriously often gets darker in aquarium; fairly easy to keep
