Info

Amblycirrhitus earnshawi Lubbock, 1978

Amblycirrhitus is a genus of ray-finned fishes, hawkfishes belonging to the family Cirrhitidae. These fishes are found on tropical reefs worldwide.

Amblycirrhitus earnshawi ist known only from four specimens off Ascension Islands. Can be found among rocks and coralline algae, also seen in rock crevices and on scattered rubble.

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
