Über die aquaritische Haltung können wir nur wenig sagen, wir haben ihn einfach noch nicht gehalten.
Und so selten wie er ist, werden wir das wohl auch nicht.
Er lebt an Korallenfelsen mit vielen Spalten und Algenbewuchs von ca. 13 bis 50 Meter.

Scheint in den Vorkommensgebieten doch recht häufig zu sein, nach Deutschland kommen die Tiere aber leider nicht !

Im Übrigen wurde der Fisch zu Ehren des polynesischen Häuptlings Hotumatua so benannt.

Steht auf der Roten Liste gefährdeter Tiere!

Centropyge hotumatua is also referred to as the Easter Islands Pygmy Angelfish or Hotumatua Dwarf Angelfish (Named after the Polynesian Chief Hotumatua). He lives endemically and is to be found exclusively in the Easter Island and only a few islands in the southeast Pacific Ocean. Centropyge hotumatua is predominantly dark blue with a bright yellow / orange head area. His eye is surrounded with a blue ring and some specimens retain a blue false eye-spot at end of dorsal fin.

Very rare collected for the hobby and very expensive too (typically sell around $1000,- -$1200,-). I have never seen up to now a specimen on a European import list.

The Hotumatua Dwarf Angelfish enjoy having access to hiding places and are often found in rocky or rubble areas in the wild. A aquarium with lots of SPS/LPS corals, openly well-positioned live rock for grazing and to hide will offer an optimal environment.

As most kind of the genius Centropyge it will best feed on marine algae, angelfish preparations, mysid or frozen shrimp, and other meaty items.
