Info

Petrolisthes militaris (Heller, 1862)

Porcelain crabs lives in all of the world's oceans except the Arctic Ocean and Antarctica. They feed on plankton and other organic particles, which they filter out of the water as filter feeders using a pair of enlarged, feathered mouthparts. Porcelain crabs are mostly found under rocks and on rocky beaches, as well as on rocky stretches of coastline.

Porcelain crabs are small, the body mostly under 1.5 cm. They are fragile animals and often shed their limbs to protect themselves from predators, hence the colloquial name porcelain crabs.
