A large, vigorous vine, originally native to tropical South America. The beautiful red and purple flowers make it a very popular ornamental and the large, yellowish-green fruits contain many seeds with somewhat acidic arils that are used for juice and ice cream. In cultivation it does best in the tropics in USDA Zone 10 or above.
