Anas superciliosa, Pacific Black Duck

Anas superciliosa, Pacific Black Duck. Mottled brown dabbling duck with distinctive striped head pattern and green speculum with black border in flight. Found from Australia and east to French Polynesia, often found on or beside ponds, wetlands and rivers. It feeds on seeds of aquatic plants. This diet is supplemented with small crustaceans, molluscs and aquatic insects. It is a species that can quack, with the female producing a sequence of raucous, rapid quacking which decreases in volume.
