Identification & Behavior: ~34.2 cm (13.4 in). The wild morph of the Rock Pigeon (Dove) is pale grey with two black bars on each wing. The feral pigeons are very variable in colors and patterns. Male and females show iridescent green and purple on the neck. They are generally associated with human settlements and inhabit urban areas. The Rock Pigeon is an introduced species.

Status: The Rock Pigeon is common in urban areas. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, Bo, and Ch.

Name in Spanish: Paloma Doméstica.

Sub-species: Rock Pigeon – or Dove – (Columba livia livia),  J. F. Gmelin 1789.

Meaning of Name: Columba: L. columbus, columba= pigeon. livia: L. livens, livia= leaden, bluish gray.
