  • Sambucus mexicana blue elderberry
blue elderberry

A variable shrub ranging from 6 to 20 feet. White flower clusters in spring followed by clusters of black berries good for pies, jams, or Elderberry wine if birds don’t get them first. Hard pruning keeps the berries within easy reach. Sun or part shade, drought tolerant but doesn’t mind watering. Bay Area native.
