CIGAR WRASSE
kūpoupou
A skittish cylindrical species locally common on seaweed-covered reefs and rubble
areas exposed to surge. Females usually
striped with brown or green, rarely all-yellow, males gray-brown with
orange and black blotches behind the pectoral fins. Feeds upon small
fish and invertebrates. Attains 20 inches. Red Sea to
Okinawa, Hawai'i, and French Polynesia.
