Appearance

Upright yellow bracts with tall glossy leaves. It grows from 5′ to 17′ with thin upright bracts. It may exhibit up to 25 bracts yellow to yellow-green on cheeks with the tips colored orange-red.

Naming

Spiral Fan.

Distribution

Native from Bolivia and Peru tropical forest.

Behavior

Grows up to 2 – 2.5m and flowers in late summer. Mature plants will flower most of the year. As many in Heliconia species flowers produce ample nectar that attracts pollinators.

Habitat

It prefers rich well drained soils and part shade to full sun. In its natural habitat grows at low and medium altitudes.

Uses

Ornamental.
