Humpnose Bigeye Bream - Monotaxis grandoculis

This is the sub-adult phase of a Monotaxis grandoculis which is black to gray to brown back gradiating to pale underside; 4 bars of seen in juveniles fades with age, head and read bar fade first, middle bars also disappear on large adult; black spot on base of pectoral fin.

"Monotaxis grandoculis", the Humpnose big-eye bream, is a species of emperor native to the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean to the Hawaiian Islands. It inhabits areas with sand or rubble substrates adjacent to coral reefs at depths of from 1 to 100 metres, mostly between 5 to 30 metres.
