White Tip Reef Shark - Triaenodon obesus
This White Tip Reef Shark - Triaenodon obesus are one of the most common Sharks.
They hunt during the night and sometimes in the early morning. On this trip to Sipadan Island, I was able to capture a video footage of a White Tip Reef Shark hunting a moray eel.
During the day, they usually rest on the sea bottom or in crevices and caves and if approached slowly, its possible to get close-up pictures of them. They are harmless and unlikely to attack scuba divers or snorkellers/swimmers/surfers.
The whitetip reef shark is a species of requiem shark, in the family Carcharhinidae, and the only member of its genus. A small shark usually not exceeding 1.6 m in length, this species is easily recognizable by its slender body and short but broad head, as well as tubular skin flaps beside the nostrils, oval eyes with vertical pupils, and white-tipped dorsal and caudal fins.
