Description 2

Trunk up to 30m high, 1.5m diameter, bark splitting into irregular plates, stout smooth twigs. Cones narrowly conic when closed, 9-14cm long. Cone scales thin and nearly flat, rounded at the apex and thinckned into a low knob that bears a small spine. Seeds 5 - 8 mm long. Leaves are linear in form, in clusters of 2 or 3, dark green, shining, 17-30cm long, with sheathes 1-1.5 cm long

Distribution 2

Endemic to the Bahaman Archipelago. The variety occurs in two countries, Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Island. In the Bahamas it is found on the islands of: Grand Bahama, Abaco, New Providence and Andros in the north of the archipelago. In the Turks and Caicos Islands the variety is found on the islands of: Pine Cay, North Caicos and Middle Caicos.

Habitat 2

Forms large stands in Grand Bahama, Abaco, New Providence and Andros, scattered in Caicos Islands. Predominantly found on flat to rolling, eroded limestone rock with pockets of lateritic soil (alkaline), and on sandy soil on the island of Pine Cay, TCI, usually with scattered or dense undergrowth of shrubs (often Sabal palmetto and Thrinax sp.); also invading open scrubland forming secondary forest.
