A popular smash burger bar and takeaway in Middlesbrough has hit the market for £225,000.

Burgerlicious - which has been trading from Linthorpe Road for roughly two years - is now up for grabs as the owner plans to relocate. With a 4.5-star rating on Google, the venue is praised online for serving up "amazing" burgers and "delicious" food.

Agent Parker Barras says the business is a "great opportunity" and has a "great base to build upon" with 10 staff and a five-star food hygiene rating. It's also based in a prime location with "regular passing trade" and a regular customer base, according to the commercial property consultants.

  • A spokesperson for the venue said: "Burgerlicious has become a popular place within Middlesbrough and surrounding areas as the go-to place for excellent, fresh food, arguably the best burger place in the North-east. It is an ideal business for anyone who wants to take over a currently extremely profitable business. The only reason for the sale is the owner is looking to relocate and therefore managing the business would prove to be difficult."

Burgerlicious - which seats around 40 customers at full capacity - was "fully fitted out" before launch and had an expense of roughly £120,000 spent on its transformation. It is only the business that is for sale - and not the property.

The venue opened up on Linthorpe Road in the aftermath of Covid lockdowns on January 6, 2022, run by Amer Ditta and Adnan Masood. Amer's family is behind the popular Akbar's Indian Restaurant just further down the street.

Burgerlicious even went viral on social media back in December 2022 for its North-East first 'red donner', a spicy spin on the much-loved donner kebab. The duo said the business was "going from strength to strength" when speaking to Teesside Live for the first anniversary last year.

Hundreds of happy customers have posted reviews online over the years. One person said: "Great burger place with amazing food. The portion sizes are decent and the price is appropriate. I had the mixed chicken and beef smash burger and pleasantly enjoyed it."

Rightmove states that, from January 1, 2023, until February 25, 2024, the business turned over £435,876 with inside restaurant sales, £173,912 for Uber sales (from June 2023 onwards), £75,000 in online website sales. This amounts to a total turnover of £682,788.

A statement online said: "The current lease is to be assigned to the new owner and has around eight years remaining at an asking rent of £15,000 plus VAT per annum. A service charge is also payable at £2,400 per annum.

"We believe the business will prove a successful acquisition, especially for a dedicated, enthusiastic purchaser to continue to exploit the full potential and derive maximum profits." You can view the listing here.
