Cocos nucifera is a tall and slender palm that can reach 20-30 metres in height.
It has pinnate leaves about 5 metres long, that form the distinctive fronds.
The old leaves tend to break away quite cleanly therefore leaving the trunk relatively smooth - which is useful for indigenous farmers who climb the trunks to harvest the fruits.
