Tradescantia spathacea tricolor is a popular ornamental houseplant that belongs to the family Commelinaceae. It is native to Central and South America, particularly to Mexico and Guatemala. It is commonly known by various names such as Moses-in-the-cradle, oyster plant, and boatlily.

This plant is a low-growing, herbaceous perennial that grows up to a height of 12 to 18 inches (30 to 45 cm) and spreads up to 18 to 24 inches (45 to 60 cm) in width. The leaves are succulent, lance-shaped, and arranged in a rosette formation. They are typically 6 to 10 inches (15 to 25 cm) long and 2 to 3 inches (5 to 7.5 cm) wide, with a striking color combination of green, pink, and cream. The undersides of the leaves are purple, which adds to the plant's aesthetic appeal.

The plant produces small, white flowers that emerge from a small, boat-shaped bract that is nestled between the leaves. These flowers bloom throughout the year, with each bloom lasting only for a day.

Tradescantia spathacea tricolor is relatively easy to care for and can thrive in a range of lighting conditions, from bright, indirect light to low light. It prefers well-draining soil and requires regular watering, although it is tolerant of short periods of drought. The plant is also sensitive to cold temperatures and should be protected from frost. It is often used as a decorative plant for indoor spaces, such as living rooms, offices, and lobbies, but can also be grown outdoors in warm, tropical climates.
