This present communication reports Mimegralla albimana (Doleschall, 1856), a dipteran species under family Micropezidae, for first time from the Indian part of Sunderban and this species is also the first representative of the family Micropezidae from the Sunderban Mangrove ecosystem.

Eight species of two genera belonging to the family Micropezidae of the order Diptera are reported from India. Highest numbers of species are found in the NorthEastern Region (62.50%) and lowest in Island biogeographic zones (12.50%). So far, nothing has been known from the Himalayan region and Arid, Semi-Arid and Hot deserts.

ABSTRACTRhizome fly, Mimegralla sp. (Diptera: Micropezidae) is a major pest on Zingiberaceae plants. Some of those fly species have been reported attacking some of Zingiberaceae plants, but in Indonesia, only one species, Mimegrallacoeruleifrons has been reported as being a pest. Since Indonesia has many species of Zingiberaceae plants, it may raise a prediction that more than one species of Mimegralla was found on this plants. Therefore, a taxonomic research on the species of rhizome flies to find the species other than M. coerulifrons on Zingiberaceae plants is urgently required. This study was conducted by using hand-picking method on Mimegralla adult inhabiting Zingiberaceae plants (ginger, turmeric, javanese ginger, and aromatic ginger), and was then identified by using morphological characters and through molecular technique by using mtCO1 gene. The results showed thatM. albimana and M. coeruleifrons found at four zingiberaceae plants were the member of Mimegralla. As a conclus...

The long-legged flies (Dolichopodidae) of the island of Montserrat in the Lesser Antilles have been surveyed and include 63 species in 27 genera. The following eleven new species are described and illustrated: Amblypsilopus marskeaesp. nov., Medetera ivieisp. nov., Medetera montserratensissp. nov., Systenus ladonnaesp. nov., Thrypticus mediofuscussp. nov., Chrysotus antillensissp. nov., Chrysotus callichromoidessp. nov., Chrysotus interfronssp. nov., Chrysotus montserratensissp. nov., Diaphorus robinsonisp. nov., and Sympycnus montserratensissp. nov. Six species have only been found on Montserrat (ca. 10% endemicity). Keys are provided to the genera and species on Montserrat, their known distribution summarized, and additional new island records provided for many species. Asyndetus wirthi Robinson is synonymized with A. interruptus (Loew) and Achradocera apicalis (Aldrich) is removed from synonymy with A. barbata (Loew). Diaphorus flavipes Aldrich is transferred to Chrysotus as a ne...
A preliminary list of Diptera (Insecta) in Garf Raydah Nature Reserve (GRNR), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) with remarks on their zoogeographic affinities is presented. This is the first in a series of planned faunal studies on different insect orders as an output of a project proposed to study the entire entomofauna of GRNR. A total number of 177 Diptera species belonging to 130 genera, representing 38 families has been listed. Some species have been identified only to genus and listed herein as genera that were not previously recorded from KSA or of a taxonomic or faunal importance. The list records five families, 11 genera and 31 species for the first time in KSA, namely: the families Acroceridae, Asteiidae, Chamaemyiidae, Heleomyzidae and Pipunculidae; the genera Acrocera (Acroceridae), Eremisca (Asilidae), Asteia (Asteiidae), Chamaemyia sp. (Chamaemyiidae), Ochthera (Ephydridae), Physoconops (Conopidae), Pseudoleria (Heleomyzidae), Salentia (Therevidae), Sapromyza (Lauxaniidae), Sternobrithes (Stratiomyidae), Tomosvaryella (Pipunculidae); and the species Apoclea algira (Linnaeus), Apoclea femoralis (Wiedemann), Promachus rectangularis Loew, Eremisca sp. and Oligopogon nitidus Efflatoun [Asilidae]; Phycus sp., Salentia sp. and Thereva nobilitata (Fabricius) [Therevidae]; Drapetis flavipes Macquartand Platypalpus flavicornis (Meigen) [Hybotidae]; Acrocera sp.1 and Acrocera sp.2 [Acroceridae]; Aspidacantha atra Kertesz and Sternobrithes sp. [Stratiomyidae]; Tomosvaryella sp.1 and Tomosvaryella sp.2 [Pipunculidae]; Eristalinus taeniops (Wiedemann) and Eumerus amoenus Loew [Syrphidae]; Asteia sp. [Asteiidae]; Chamaemyia sp. [Chamaemyiidae]; Physoconops sp., and Thecophora fulvipes Rubineau-Desvoidy [Conopidae]; Ochthera sp. [Ephydridae]; Pseudoleria pectinata (Loew) [Heleomyzidae]; Cestrotus megacephalus Loew and Sapromyza sp. [Lauxaniidae]; Campylocera oculata Hendel [Pyrgotidae]; Australosepsis niveipennis (Becker) [Sepsidae]; Metasphenisca transilis Munro [Tephritidae]; Anthomyia xanthopus (Hennig) [Anthomyiidae]; and Sarcophaga inaequalis Austen [Sarcophagidae]. More than 50% of the recorded fly species are of an Afrotropical affinity, whereas the Palaearctic elements did not exceed 20%. Only 7% of the species were of both Afrotropical and Palaearctic affinities, and Oriental elements were close to nil. This emphasizes the fact that the southwestern part of KSA, including the study area, belonging to Asir Province, ought to be part of the Afrotropical Region rather than the the Palaearctic Region.

Descriptions of four new species of the genus Microphorella Becker (Diptera: Empidoidea, Microphoridae, Parathalassiini) from Southeast Asia and New Guinea, with notes on the relationships within the genusFour new species of the genus Microphorella Becker, M. malaysiana, new species (Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia), M. papuana, new species (Papua New Guinea), M. bira, new species (Sulawesi), and M. satunensis, new species (Thailand) are described from the coasts of Southeast Asia and Papua New Guinea. The phylogenetic relationships of the new species within the genus are discussed. A preliminary analysis leads to the conclusion that the new species form a distinctive group within the genus based primarily on the ecological data and characters of the male terminalia.
