Sulphur-crested Cockatoo – Cacatua galerita

The Sulphur crested cockatooCacatua galerita – is one of Australia’s iconic bird species. It is quite a large bird – up to 50cm and is often kept in captivity. It is known for it’s cheeky disposition and it’s fondness around populated areas of taking up ‘residence’ and often being quite destructive. They have been known to chew through external timber work around houses and even make short work of things like christmas lights. They can often be heard over large distances with their distinctive screeching call.

Nevertheless they are highly inquisitive and entertaining birds with a myriad of expressions – a bit like the class clown!
These are some images I took whilst in Sydney on one of our trips there this year.

Lots of ideas…again!!
