Pachira aquatica

Hey Plant Friends!

This week we are talking about Pachira aquatica, more commonly known as the Money Tree. This plant is native to Central and South America and belongs to the Malvaceae family alongside Okra, Cacao, and Cotton. The money tree is popular for its support the feng shui and good energy that it brings indoor spaces. It is commonly believed that Money Trees bring good luck and financial success to those that grow them making this a great plant to gift as a housewarming present. You can grow Money Tree as a small table-top plant all the way up to a large floor plant. The braided Money Tree is also an interesting specimen.

Let’s talk about care. Money trees love bright light in your home. Place in your sunniest window for optimal growth. During the summer months your plant will appreciate being outdoors with plenty of sunshine and lots of humidity. Supplement humidity in your home with a Continuous Spray Bottle. When it’s time to repot your Money Tree, we recommend using a well-draining potting soil like Sol Soils Houseplant Mix. Aquatica literally means one with water or living in water. Don’t let these babies dry out! Only allow the top 2-3 inches of soil to dry before giving a good soak. Cut back on water during the winter months as active growth will slow. Keep an eye out for common pests such as mealy bugs and spider mites. Check for pests weekly when watering and keep a bottle of Bonide’s Insecticidal Soap on hand for easy treatment.

Money Tree is available in greenhouse in multiple sizes 4”, 6”, and 10” pots. If you have additional questions feel free to reach out to us by phone, Instagram, or email us - hello@tonkadale.com.
