Boats and furniture are made from its wood. Fashion jewellery such as bracelets, necklaces and rosaries are made with its seeds.
The young leaves are eaten cooked. Raw seeds are toxic but once boiled they can be eaten and are very nourishing.
The leaves and seeds have anti-inflamatory and antibacterial properties.
