Chaetodon unimaculatus

Chaetodon unimaculatus, commonly known as the Teardrop butterflyfish, is a medium-sized butterflyfish. Their body is pure white on the belly and to bright yellow on the back. The middle part has thin vertical yellow and white stripes. They've a black vertical stripe through the eye and one through the base of the caudal fin into the anal and dorsal fin. On their body is a large black spot which seems like it's running from becoming wet and forms a teardrop. Pelvic fins are also yellow.

These fish are quite peaceful to most other fish, but might haress similar looking fish. They live mostly in small groups in a wide variety of habitats, from coral reef flats to seawards reefs. In an aquarium they can best be kept alone unless a proven pair can be found. They're obligate corallivores and although they eat all sorts of worms, crustaceans and algae, they feed mainly on soft corals. Keep in mind some individuals might eat stony corals as well! This makes them not suitable for a fish-only tank and they can only be kept in a large tank with a lot of fast growing soft corals where considerable damage to the corals is accepted. Feeding them a varied diet of live and frozen meaty foods can help to minimize the damage to the corals. A real specialist fish!
