A common tree of sandy shores in Borneo with a very widespread distribution from East Africa to the Pacific Islands.

BARRINGTONIA  ASSOCIATION: Hernandia nymphaeifolia is one of about 30 sea dispersed plants  found along the Borneo coast  known as the Barringtonia Association which are primarily sea dispersed. Hernandia seeds are surrounded by a  paper like cup (Chinese lantern) which enables the seed to float for long distances.
