Biogeografic region: Amazonia, Andean, Guiana Shield, Pacific. Elevation range: 0–3500 m a.s.l. Cultivated in Colombia. Native to Colombia. Colombian departments: Amazonas, Antioquia, Atlántico, Bolívar, Caquetá, Casanare, Cauca, Cesar, Chocó, Cundinamarca, Guainía, Guaviare, Magdalena, Meta, Putumayo, Risaralda, Santander, Sucre, Valle del Cauca.
