Eleutheranthera ruderalis is native to the Caribbean, Central and South America.
Worldwide distribution
This species has been introduced in Africa (Benin, Burkina, Cameroon, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Zaire), (Keeling), India, Sri Lanka, South East Asia (Java, Malaysia, New Guinea, Taiwan, Thailand), Australia (Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland), Pacific Islands (Christmas Island, Cocos Island, Fiji) and in some Indian Ocean islands (Mauritius, Reunion Island).

Local harmfulness
West Indies: Eleutheranthera ruderalis is a common weed in sugarcane, vegetable and food crops. It is slightly harmful to sugarcane cultivation.
Guyana: Very rare weed in agricultural plots. Sometimes observed at the edge of plots. It is never abundant in French Guiana.
