Habit: Medium size tree, up to 10-15 m in height.
Trunk & bark: Bark leathery with smooth texture.
Leaves: Leaves simple, alternate, broadly cordate, 5-15 cm across, apex acute, 5 or more palmately nerved, margin entire or serrulate, glabrous above, minutely grey tomentose beneath; stipules large.
Inflorescences or flowers: Inflorescence solitary. Flowers regular, bisexual, yellow with crimson at the center; similar to Thespesia populnea but style 5 branched and stigma purple usually capitate; calyx 5lobed, persistent; petals 5, connate; ovary 5-celled. Fruits: Fruit capsule, globose, beaked, 10celled, 5valved.
Seeds /seedling: Seeds punctuate, with few stellate hairs. Epigeal germination.
