This photomicrograph revealed some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by the dermatophytic fungal organism, Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Of importance are the smaller microconidia, and larger, multicellular macroconidia, the fungal spores of this organism. Also known as mitospores, these reproductive structures are born out of the process of mitosis, and are therefore, haploid when they reach maturity.
