Each Monday Cathy at Rambling In The Garden invites us to share an arrangement using materials collected from our gardens.
A day late I am sharing what stood out most in my garden when I returned home yesterday from the Garden Bloggers Fling, which by the way was filled with magnificent gardens and people. It will take a few days to sort through all the photos.
Self-seeded Cleome has taken over the center of the meditation circle. Hummingbirds are darting all around it as are the bees.
Materials
Cleome hassleriana (Spider Flower)
Porcelain Ikebana vase, Georgetown Pottery, Maine. Triangle Black Wave (6.5 W x 6.5 L x 2H)
Thanks to Cathy at Rambling In The Garden for hosting and giving us a chance to express our flower arranging passion. Visit her to discover what she and others found this week in their gardens to place In A Vase On Monday.
It’s lovely! Looks as if it is spreading its arms out for balance. 😉 Have a good week Susie!
It does, it does Cathy! Cleome is a fun plant. Hope you’re doing well.
Glad you enjoyed the Fling. The Cleome in the Meditation Circle look amazing. Interesting in a vase on its own.
Christina, wish you could have joined us. The Fling was great fun, lots of interesting gardens and plants I saw would work in my location quite well. Cleome has a nice form.
Can’t wait to read about the Fling. After literally decades of my cleome self-sowing, I have only ONE seedling. I’ll be darned, perhaps it was the drought, or the cool, wet spring? I have no idea. Time for some new seed, I guess.
Eliza, so interesting your cleome floundered after so long–a shame. I imagine a new pack of seeds will get you right back in business! The Fling was fun.
I just read that Kris Peterson flew out for it. I’m envious you all got to hang together. Maybe next year I’ll go for it. I think it is great idea.
Yes. I was thrilled to meet Kris. Was like seeing an old friend, after reading her blog for so long.
This looks like a flower arrangement in one plant! Gorgeous.
Thanks. Was pleased the cleome could stand on its own so easily for a quick arrangement this week.
Such a simple effective design, beautiful! Lovely vase too.
Thanks Malc. The cleome has such an interesting structure, it stands easily on its own.
I love, love, love Cleomes! With my partial sun and shade conditions, they’ve struggled, but I still manage to get a few to pop up here and there. I remember they were a favorite annual when I had a sunny garden–and great cut flowers, too, as you show. 🙂
Ah, another cleome fan. Saw a few of these in the Fling gardens. My previous garden was very shady and I never learned to appreciate it until too late.
I don’t know why I don’t grow these flowers but I must change that. It was so great to spend time with you at the Fling, Susie! I’m sorry if I bent your ear. I hope we can meet up again at another Fling or in some other connection. And again, a very happy anniversary!
It was wonderful getting to meet in person and see all those beautiful gardens together Kris. Thanks. Cleome is easy here as it self-seeds. After the Fling I have a long list of plants I want to add.
So you went too! I look forward to seeing your photos. I love cleomes and I forgot to grow any this year. Yours are lovely.
Such a beauty! Any news on date and location of next year’s Fling?
Thanks Marian. Yes, it’s set to return to Austin to coincide with the first fling 10 years ago. May 3-6, 2018.
Already booked at a meeting in Vermont, darn.
How wonderful that you and Kris could meet and to share those few days with such like minded people. Look forward to hearing more. Your cleome, both in the vase and in the garden are stunning – something I have tried unsuccessfully to grow from seed but did hope I might be able to buy as plug plants, but didn’t see any.this year. Perhaps next year…
