Vini

The Vini genus include five species of small stocky lorikeets with an overall green colour, streaked feathers on the crown and short rounded tails.

They are native to Samoa, Lau Archipelago, Tonga and adjacent islands in south-central Polynesia.

The Collared Lory was previously assigned to the monotypic genus Phigus and classified as Phigys solitarius but was in 2021 moved to the Vini genus with the IOC 11.2 update.

Furthermore the Red-throated Lorikeet, New Caledonian Lorikeet, Meek’s Lorikeet, Palm Lorikeet and Red-chinned Lorikeet were previously included in the Charmosyna  genus but was moved to the Vini genus with the IOC 11.2 update in 2021.
