Characteristics
A small grouper about 25 cm. The pale brown body is covered with white stripes that look like polygons are spread out. There are several thick brown vertical lines. The pectoral and caudal fins are dotted with brown spots.
Ecology
It inhabits under the rocks of coral reefs and in the shade of rocks. It stays still until it finds prey. It preys on small fish and crustaceans.
Habitat
Ishigaki Island
I took this picture while diving in a coral reef about 10m. It wasn't that big. It sat still in the shadow of a rock.
