The violet sea snail floats on the surface of the ocean with a raft constructed out of secreted mucous bubbles. The creature depends entirely on this vessel, and should the raft ever pop or detach, the snail would sink to the ocean floor and die.

This unique characteristic was a clever adaptation from the traditional mucous trail that other snails use to travel on land.

Even though it cannot see and it cannot swim, it still preys on one of the most poisonous creatures of the sea: the Portuguese Man of War.

These snails are born male and become female as they mature. Eggs are fertilized inside of the female and turn into larvae which can swim freely until they fully mature and create their own raft!
