• The sixline wrasse is a species of fish that is commonly found in coral reefs across Western Australia and Queensland.
• They are considered to be one of the most colourful and attractive wrasse species, with a bright blue head and orange, yellow, and purple stripes on their body.
• They are carnivorous fish and feed on a variety of small invertebrates, such as copepods, amphipods, and isopods. They are also known to feed on fish eggs and small fish.
• The sixline wrasse is known for its cleaning behaviour, where it will pick parasites and dead skin from the bodies of other fish.
• The sixline wrasse is a simultaneous hermaphrodite, meaning that it possesses both male and female reproductive organs. During spawning season, males will display bright colours and engage in courtship behaviours to attract females.
• They have been observed engaging in a unique behaviour called “resting phase”, where they lie motionless on their side in a sheltered location for several hours at a time.
• Estimated lifespan is between 5 – 7 years in the wild.
