Abstract

The petal-eyed swimmer crab, Vojmirophthalmus minabensis (Sakai 1961) is reported for the first time from the Indian coast. A single ovigerous female specimen was collected from the Nochikuppam fish landing centre, Chennai coast, southeast India. This species has previously been recorded only from the Sea of Japan and off the coast of Sarawak, Borneo. This report widens the knowledge of its distribution and range extension across the Bay of Bengal.
