Description
Upper surfaces covered with small granules, largest
on the snout. On the back these granules are intermixed with more
or less numerous irregularly scattered round convex tubercles.
Supralabials: 10-12; Infralabials: 8-10; Lamellae under 4th finger:
7-8; Lamellae under 4th toe: 9-11. Males with a series of 30 or 36
cloaco femoral pores, not interrupted on the pre-cloacal region.
Dorsum greyish or pinkish brown. Head generally variegated with
brown. Venter whitish.

Hemidactylus frenatus is oviparous,In tropical areas, breeding occurs throughout the year. In cooler climates, breeding is more seasonal.To protect against predators, eggs are laid in crevices. Eggs are produced all year round in its native habitat. In colder areas, eggs are not laid in the winter. The incubation period of H. frenatus is about 46 to 62 days

Ecology
House Geckos are quite territorial. When confronting other members of the same species, H. frenatus have violent tendencies and are more aggressive than other gecko species.It has a distinctive three to five note call that is commonly described as "chuck, chuck, chuck". They have a loud vocalization that tends to be louder and more frequent than other gecko species. These calls can be heard throughout day and night.Hemidactylus frenatus is a generalist predator on small invertebrates and vertebrates, with insects and spiders forming the majority of its diet.

This nocturnal species is found on boulders, beneath rocks or rotting logs, and on trees, however, it most commonly found on buildings. This species is found in both villages and large urban areas, it is usually found close to electric lights at dusk (Malkmus 2002). In addition, this species also occurs in a diverse range of habitats, including rain forests, savannas, and deserts (Henkel and Schmidt 1995). Spawls et al. (2002) report that this species was found on small palm trees in a coconut plantation.
