    Reproduction
Sexually mature clams are male for a year after which they develop into hermaphrodites. Breeding occurs in winters. Reproduction is stimulated by presence of other eggs and sperms in surrounding water. Hermaphrodite clams usually release sperms first and eggs later to minimise self-fertilisation.
