Background of the project
“Zingiber zerumbet has always seemed to us to be a species with high potential, especially in the cosmetics field.
Our succesfull first trials in French Guiana in 2015 allowed us have a better understanding of this species and its production.
Its natural presence in Mauritius Island and Colombia encouraged us to develop additiona origin sources for this plant. An industrial request comming from european cosmetic industry allowed us to redimension on a large-scale culture and continuously improving social benefits and sustainable environmental standars ”

Description of Zingiber zerumbet |
Stems approximately 1–2 m tall, which are erect, oblique, round and covered by sheaths of flat leaves. The leaves and inflorescences grow from a thick rhizome or underground stem. The sheets are thin and are approximately 25–35 cm long. The leaves are arranged alternately along the stem.The inflorescence, which is green when young, becomes red when old and reaches 6–10 cm in height. It is supported on a separate pseudostem from the leaves by a narrow overlap that forms an open pouch, from which the flowers arise. At maturity they gradually fill with an aromatic and slimy liquid |

Cosmetic and Phytotherapeutic uses of Zingiber zerumbet
The most common use is one made with flowers in hair care like shampoo hence the name Shampoo ginger.
This use is particularly famous in India and Hawaii where women squeeze mature flowers to extract the juice that they spread on their hair but also on their body.
This substance extracted from flowers renowned for making hair supple.
Besides this external use, the rhizomes of Zingiber zerumbet are also traditionally used against indigestion, stomach pain and dental pain.
The pulp of rhizomes is also used to relieve external inflammations (sprains, etc.)
