Turmeric Plant Care Tips

prefers warm, humid conditions and well-drained soil. Here are some care tips for growing turmeric:

  1. Plant turmeric in a pot or in the ground in a location that receives partial shade.

  2. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Use mulch to retain moisture in the soil and keep the rhizomes cool. Reduce watering during Winter months.

  3. Fertilise the plant every 4-6 weeks with a balanced fertiliser or compost.

  4. Harvest the rhizomes (underground stem) after 8-10 months, when the leaves begin to yellow, Lift and store the rhizomes in a warm, dry place during the wet Winter months to prevent rotting. Plant them out again in Spring.

  5. Turmeric rhizomes can be stored for several months in a cool, dry place.

  6. Turmeric can also be grown indoors as a houseplant, it will need bright, indirect light.

  7. Water consistently and keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged. Water more frequently in hot weather or if natural rainfall is insufficient.

  8. Remove spent flowers or dead foliage regularly during the growing period.

  9. Cut off yellow leaves during harvesting.
